World Thinking Day - Feb. 19

Daisy Girl Scout Troop #9502 enjoyed an ice cream social.

Cadette Girl Scout Troop #95035 went to the TDECU Credit Union located in Hallettsville to earn the Girl Scout Dollars and Sense Interest Project.  They learned about ATM machines, budgeting money, how to write out a check, checking and saving account information, over drafts, and much more.  The girls played a game of Jeopardy in which the staff at TDECU put together for them to see how much the girls learned at the end of the evening.  A tour of the credit union was also given which the girls really enjoyed.  They were hosted with punch and cookies.  The girls donated jewelry to the treasure box for the credit union for helping them earn the Dollars and Sense Interest Project.  Pictured left to right front: Ashley Indorf, Skyler Henry, Jayde Kurtz, Alexis Rainosek, Adrian King, and Atlanta Moore  Back Row: Amy Hoerig, JoBeth Tieken, Dawn Hoffmann, Tracy Kurtz, Shelley Ressler and Heather Kolacny

Sun Dragon Self Defense Course

Shiner Girl Scout Troop 95035 hosted the first Sun Dragon Self Defense Course in Shiner at the Methodist Center.  All girls in Greater South Texas were invited to attend.  The girls learned tricks to escape from a variety of common grabs.  They also learned the vulnerable targets on the body which are best to strike, and the weapons on our bodies to use maximum impact.   Strong body language and how to use their voices to prevent violence and get help were learned as well.  Each girl received a self defense patch for their vest which was donated by Lone Star Bank in Shiner.

Girl Scout Troops 9502 and 95035 joined the local Boy Scouts to proudly lead the First Survivor Lap at the
Yoakum / Shiner Relay for Life.  The girls and boys led the Cancer Survivors in the pouring rain!!
They also began the evening off with the Flag Ceremony.

Shiner Girl Scout Troops 95035 &  #9502 went to the Corpus Christi  ballet to see  "Cinderella."
The girls were welcomed  backstage after the ballet to work on earning a dance badge, visit with the cast
and also to get autographs.  It was a fun day.

SHINER ISD CONCESSION GETS FACE-LIFT
Girl Scout Troop #95035 accomplished earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award.  It is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn.  It shows you have made a promise to help others, improve your community and world, and become the best you can be.  Troop #95035 continues to help our community by choosing the Shiner ISD Concession Stand as their Bronze Project.  They cleaned, swept and painted the inside of the food concession stand.  The girls also asked the Shiner Business Men's Club for a generous donation to go towards tint for the windows.  The tint will help keep the products and workers cooler.  They were very kind to help the girls with their request.  We would also like to mention the shelf Ernest Kurtz hung above the sink which was much needed for cleaning supplies.  Also helping with purchases was the Shiner P.T.O. donating the paint and cleaning supplies.  The girls gave two full Saturdays to this project.  We hope everyone will like the new face-lift of the concession come football season.  Pictured left to right: Maggie Grosenbacher, Ashley Indorf, Skyler Henry, Adrian King, and Jayde Kurtz.  Other helping hands not pictured: Montana Mote and Cathy Mote Goggans and Girl Scout Leaders: Tracy Kurtz and Amy Hoerig.

First Aid Training
Girl Scout Troop #95035 recently took a 7 hour First Aid Training Course and received their certification.  The training was a hands on training.  The girls practiced first aid for sprains, cuts, and fractures.  Each girl was trained to know what to do when someone is choking or stops breathing.  They did a brief discussion and some hands on with CPR.  Many other life saving techniques were taught to the girls.  First Aid Kits were made and taken home.  All girls felt confident in helping with First Aid when they completed the course.  Pictured are Skyler Henry, Adrian King, Jayde Kurtz, and Donna McClure, RN with Trouble Shooter's Training.
